Different types of gelato at an ice cream parlor

Even though we’ve experienced our fair share of hot and sunny days over the past few weeks, it is now, officially, summer. And what better way to beat the heat than with a little ice cream?

Fortunately, here in Austin, we have an incredible selection of ice cream and gelato shops to choose from—with the kind of fun, funky, and fresh flavors you would only see around here.

Check out a list of our favorite ice cream shops and get ready to indulge in a sweet, cold treat:

Amy’s Ice Cream

Another legendary Austin ice cream shop is Amy’s Ice Cream with their 350 rotating flavors and several locations throughout our city and beyond. You pick the flavor and the toppings to create your own culinary masterpiece. This is great place to bring the kids—and kids at heart.

Cowtipping Creamery

This ice cream truck is no joke. Options range from the basics (a plain vanilla cone) to a stacked sundae with all the trimmings. We recommend trying the From Texas, With Love stacked sundae.

Dolce Neve

This place serves up authentic Italian gelato. The owner, an Italian native, even attended Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, Italy to perfect the craft (yes, there really is a gelato school). Flavors vary but have included Italian delights such as mascarpone and lemon, ricotta thyme and goat cheese, honey and bee pollen, and more.

Dolce Vita

This Hyde Park café strategically placed its tempting gelato counter next to the front door—we dare you to enter without ordering some. If it’s your first time, you can’t go wrong with the pistachio. After that go crazy and order the espresso sorberita which is their housemade vanilla gelato with espresso, Kahlua, and vodka.

Gelateria Gemelli

With flavors like Vietnamese coffee, goat’s milk and honey, and olive oil, Gelateria Gemelli appeals to ice-cream lovers with a sophisticated palate. This establishment also offers a selection of cocktails, beers, and wines, making it a perfect place to meet up with some friends to chill.

Lick Honest Ice Creams

Locally sourced dairy and natural ingredients make this shop a staple here in Austin—and they’ve even expanded to San Antonio as well. Flavors include horchata, Texas sheet cake, roasted beets and fresh mint, and more.

Sweet Ritual

If you’re looking for dairy-free ice cream, then Sweet Ritual is your place to go. Almond milk, peanut butter, or coconut milk start as your vegan ice-cream base and from there you can select your toppings. In true, weird Austin fashion, they even have a flavor called Unicorn Poop.

The owner of Austin’s oldest gelato shop will compete in the finals of the World Gelato Tour in Italy this September, which means you can try the Rosedale shop’s contending flavors all summer long. Need help with your order? Order the peanut butter with Nutella or goat cheese and cherries.

This entire list is just further proof that living in Austin can be pretty sweet. If you’re thinking about moving to our fair city, then drop us a line. We can get you set up in the home or apartment of your dreams within walking distance to one of these fine establishments!
