About Us

February 12th, 2009

Habitat Hunters Real Estate Services was created in 1972, at a time when 51st Street was nearly Austin’s northern boundary, and Austin City Limits was still two years away from its pilot episode with Willie Nelson.

Jody Lockshin, CRS, GRI, joined Habitat Hunters in 1982, while she was studying Marketing at the University of Texas. Upon graduating in 1983, she purchased the company and has owned it now for over 25 years.

Starting out of a single office, Habitat Hunters moved to a small house off of Guadalupe (the “Drag”) and West 30th St. in 1985, and has been in the same location ever since. In the past 24 years, Habitat Hunters has grown to include 23 agents, 7 staff members and 2 interns, including Jody’s husband, Jeff Plotkin, JD, CPA, a fully licensed attorney, CPA, and Realtor®, who joined the company in 1993. Habitat Hunters is one of only a handful of real estate offices with an on-staff attorney/CPA/Realtor®, to offer advice on legal and tax concerns.

As Habitat Hunters grew, so did the number and quality of the services we provide. Not only do we handle the purchase, sale, and leasing of residential properties such as houses, duplexes, condos, townhomes and apartments, both resale and new construction, but we also handle commercial properties, including office, retail, multi-family, lots, restaurants, and warehouse space, etc. In addition, we offer consulting services covering almost any real estate need, including, but not limited to: relocation, market analyses, investing strategies, expert testimony in real estate related matters, etc.

Most of our business comes from repeat clients and referrals, which is evidence of our unbridled commitment to excellence. After over 35 years in business and over 24 years with the same owner and the same location, Habitat Hunters offers a stability and dependability that is unmatched by any other company in Austin.
